Remove blank lines
A question which is frequently asked is "I have a lot of blank lines in my file and I don't want to go through and manually delete them. Is there an easier way to do this?"
The answer: YES!
In versions of UltraEdit that support Perl-compatible regular expressions, you can use the following Perl-compatible regular expression in DOS/Unix/Mac formatted-files. You can enable Perl-compatible regular expressions under Advanced -> Configuration -> Search -> Regular Expression engine.

Ripping DVD / converting recorded TV to mpeg-4

Finally decided to rip all my DVD collections to disk. Basically two different treatment according to the movie types:
1. soap TV shows such as Friends, Two and Half a Man will be simply converted to xvid/ac3 using autogk in order to save disk space.
2. Good movies will be kept as is. DVD movies will be simply ripped to disk using dvd decrypter, while recorded HDTV movies will be only pre-processed using VideoRedo to cut out the commercials.

Adding a new 1.5TB Seagate SATA Hard-drive

As more and more recorded TV show filling the hard drive of my HTPC, more disk space is required. Last sat, I finally went out and got myself a Seagate 1.5 TB Hard drive ($218 from MSY). This hard drive appears to be the most bang-for-the-money buy now as its cents-per-byte is the cheapest.
Anyway, as a result of this new purchase, I opened up all three computers (File server, HTPC, and my workhorse PC). and spent the whole Saturday with them, despite of the constant attention appeals from my two-year-old.
